Junior Basketball Round-up

Omagh Thunder U16 Boys 56 – 12 Queens

The boys were excellent in this fixture running out to an easy victory led by fantastic defence from the team as a whole. Dovydas Minkus & Tiyrone Weir stood out on attack while Tiernan Doody was fantastic in defence against the Belfast squad.

Omagh Thunder U14 Boys 52 – 16 Queens

The under 14s recorded a solid victory in this match up with a very good second half performance on both ends of the court for an easy win. Mark Hayes led the way in scoring backed by Cillian Deehan and again great team defence provided easy offence for the boys.

Omagh Thunder U18 Girls 18 – 36 Magherafelt Titans

Omagh’s girls had a good first half but tired after the break. The Titans M. Stewart dominated the game scoring 26 points on their way to a 18 point win. Omagh’s young squad have a lot of potential and are improving with each game. Eva McCaul was fantastic for the Thunder contributing 14 points.

Junior News

Boys U14s

Queens vs Omagh Thunder

Omagh’s boys had a decent lead for most of this game until the 4th quarter saw a major Queens comeback which put Omagh behind by 1 point with 30 seconds to play.

Omagh point-guard Mark Hayes made a steal at halfcourt and was fouled on his way up for a lay-up to put him at the free throw line with 8 seconds to play and two foul shots. Mark scored on both attempts under serious pressure and Omagh held on for the final few seconds for the 1 point win.

Final score: Queens 24 – Omagh 25

Boys U16s

Queens vs Omagh Thunder

Omagh’s U16 boys were dominant in this game and through great rebounding and defending went on to win by 31 points. Strong performances by Tyrone Weir and Dovydas Minkus on attack while Tiernan Doody was terrific in defence sealed this solid victory.

Final score: Omagh 53 – Queens 21

Tyrone Towers Camp letter 2012

The Dungannon based camp is in it’s 30th year and is the best way to improve your game for next season. The camp takes place from Monday 13th to Friday 17th August.

All Omagh club members who are interested in going to USA next year for basketball camps are highly encouraged to attend a basketball camp this summer. Get together and get organised!

Personally, I’ve been to Dungannon Camp twice in my youth and loved the experience on both camps! I would highly recommend it!
