Senior games report – 5th November 2012
Mens Basketball NI Division 2
Carrickfergus Flyers vs Omagh Thunder
The Thunder were confident going into their third game of the season having comfortably won their opening two games. Carrick Flyers were ready for the Omagh lads though and set the tone for the contest with tough, physical play from the get-go. All even at the first quarter, Omagh edged ahead by 3 points in the second quarter as the three-pointers started to drop against the Carrick zone defence.
The home side reacted by going to an intense man-to-man defence in the second half which halted the Thunder’s outside attack and shifted the momentum in favour of the home side. Up by 1 point going into the final quarter, the Flyers found another gear and wore Omagh down on both ends of the court. Physical defence and well executed offence gave them the edge and they surged ahead. The Thunder had no answers and were thoroughly out-rebounded down the stretch to give Carrick a 9 point win and Omagh their first taste of defeat this season.

Belfast Sables vs Omagh Thunder
Omagh were looking to bounce back against new boys Belfast Sables in the Station Centre and they did it in style. A free flowing fast paced game saw the Thunder storm out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter. More intense defending led to fast break chances galore as Omagh advanced to a 44-14 lead at half-time with the game in the bag barring a major comeback.
The second half saw more of the same open play as the Thunder demolished the Belfast opposition on their way to a 55 point win and getting them back on top of the league table.
