Mens Basketball NI Division 2

The Thunder made their first trip to Richill to face newcomers the Armagh Bisons last week in their fifth game of the season.

Armagh started very strongly, using their small court to their advantage by pressurising the Omagh guards and rebounding well to frustrate the Omagh starters. The Bisons broke out to a 18-6 first quarter lead as Omagh could not get their offence going to start this contest.

Some substitutions helped Omagh in the second period and Joey Hale began to find room to operate, scoring 12 of the Thunders 20 points for the quarter. The Thunder had found some attacking rhythm and reduced the lead to 5 at half time.

Another low scoring quarter for Omagh in the third saw the good work undone as the Bisons seemed to be hitting shots from all angles while nothing was clicking for the Thunder. The athletic play of the Bisons out-hustled the Thunder on the boards and they regained a 13 point lead as the final quarter approached.

The Weigh Inn Man of the Match Joey Hale contributed another 5 points for the Thunder to give the Omagh lads some hope but Armagh sealed the victory from the free throw line as the fouls mounted up for a disappointed Thunder squad.

Final score:

Armagh Bisons 56

Omagh Thunder 46
